Why many of us fail to reach our goals

Hey, Guys!

I watched this video a few weeks back and it has had such an impact on me that I must share it with you. The video is on vulnerability and you may be wondering, “What does that have to do with fitness?” Everything!

BrenĂ© Brown says this, “Courage, the original definition of courage, when it first came into the English language -- it's from the Latin word "cor," meaning "heart" -- and the original definition was to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart. And so these folks had, very simply, the courage to be imperfect.”

How many of us fail to meet our goals because we failed to be perfect? All of us. How many are of us are so afraid to actually do what our trainer says? Most of us. We are simply afraid of being imperfect. As a trainer, I study failure, A LOT, but with all of that studying you’d think I’d be fearless in attempting new feats in fitness. The truth is I am also afraid to be imperfect because eyes are upon me for those who I lead through this journey.

Brown goes on to say that how we are the most medicated and obese society in the history of mankind. We try to numb our vulnerability, our grief, our shame, our fear, and our disappointment. The reality is that when we are numbing those negative emotions, we are also numbing our positive emotions—joy, gratitude, and happiness.

So as you pursue your fitness journey, be courageous and brave enough to be vulnerable so that you can see what you are truly missing out on—joy, gratitude, and happiness. Our journeys ought to be fun. Step back a second to relish in your growth. I promise you that each week as you continue down the path, you are overlooking the progress that is being made.

Yours in Health,
